Transfer SLU 101

We understand that you already have experience at college, so we've designed SLU 101 Transfer Orientation specifically to meet the special needs of transfer students.

The one-day program includes information sessions with your school or college, individual meetings with an academic adviser, making connections with other students, reserving your textbooks and getting your student ID.

You’ll also learn about important campus resources at SLU, including Information Technology Services, the Office of Parking and Card Services, the Student Involvement Center, campus ministry, the Department of Housing and Residence Life, the Student Success Center, student financial services and more.

Because we provide a great deal of information relevant to your academic success and register you for your first semester classes, it is expected that all new transfer students will participate in this program. We look forward to welcoming you to SLU!

SLU 101 Transfer Orientation FAQs

Do SLU 101 Transfer Orientation program dates have limited capacity?

Unfortunately, yes. Each program has a limited capacity because we make every effort to provide you with the opportunity to meet individually with an academic adviser.

How will I know which SLU 101 Transfer Orientation program I am scheduled to attend?

After you complete and submit the SLU 101 Transfer Orientation registration and advising information forms through mySLU, you will select the date of the SLU 101 Transfer Orientation session that you are able to attend. (For students starting in the spring semester, there is only one session available to attend in January; for students starting in the fall semester, there are three sessions available in the summer.)

Do I have to participate in all parts of the SLU 101 Transfer Orientation program?

Yes. In addition to registering for classes, you’ll be getting important information that will help you to adjust to your first semester at Saint Louis University. You may not think you need it now, but you will appreciate it later.

If I am unable to attend any of the SLU 101 Transfer Orientation programs, can I make other arrangements to complete fall registration?

We expect all new transfer students to attend SLU 101 Transfer Orientation because it provides an opportunity for you to meet with your advisor to register, to discuss degree requirements and to learn about campus services and facilities. If you are truly unable to attend, please contact your admissions counselor to make other arrangements to complete registration.

How will I find out which courses transferred and how they will be applied toward the requirements of my degree program?
During the SLU 101 Transfer Orientation program you will meet with a representative from your college's academic advising office who will review your degree requirements and their policies. You will also meet individually with an academic adviser, who will explain to you which courses transferred and which degree requirements still to be completed. Transfer course evaluations are based on the official transcripts SLU receives. Make sure you inform the academic advisor of completed coursework or degrees not included on the list of official transfer credit.
Will I be able to get the schedule of classes I want?
Your advisor will work with you and recommend courses that are appropriate for you and your degree program. Classes may close out as registration proceeds throughout the process. Access to courses is on a first-come, first-served basis. If you cannot register for a class during SLU 101 Transfer Orientation, your advisor will share with you what options are available.
Can family members sit in on their student's advising/registration appointment?
Parents and other family members are not invited to the advising appointments. It is an important time for the students to meet with an academic advisers independently and begin developing a relationship. We recommend that family members participate in other options on the schedule or enjoy time exploring the campus.
Will I have to take placement tests during SLU 101 Transfer Orientation?
